WILL RECEIVE AWARD FROM ENTERTAINMENT MERCHANTS ASSOCIATION
ENCINO, CA (March 29, 2016) … The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) today announced that actor/writer/producer Paul Reiser will receive its 2016 Independent Career Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding roles in independent film and television productions. The award will be presented at EMA’s Independent Product Market on Tuesday, April 12, at 6:15 pm.
EMA President & CEO Mark Fisher said, “Paul Reiser is truly worthy of this award. He has supported independent productions as both an actor and a screenwriter, creating many memorable roles and providing great entertainment for the home video audience.”
Reiser is best known for the popular and critically acclaimed NBC series “Mad About You,” which he co-created and starred in. “Mad About You” explored the romantic ups and downs of an endearingly neurotic couple, Paul and Jamie Buchman – played by Reiser and Helen Hunt – as they coped with marriage, mood swings, love, and life. The complete series of “Mad About You,” which received 12 Emmy® and four Golden Globe® awards, will be released on DVD by Mill Creek Entertainment on May 3, 2016.
Reiser first came to note in 1982’s Diner. His work in independent film includes One Night at McCool’s (2001), The Thing About My Folks (2005) – which was also Reiser’s first original screenplay, the Academy Award-wining Whiplash (2014), and Concussion (2015). His upcoming independent films include The Darkness with Kevin Bacon, Devil and the Deep Blue Sea with Jason Sudeikis and Maisie Williams, and War on Everyone with Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Pena.
Reiser returned to television last year in the FX series “Married” and currently stars in the Amazon Original Series “Red Oaks.”
The multitalented Reiser also wrote the New York Times bestseller “Couplehood” as well as its follow-up bestsellers “Babyhood” and “Familyhood” and the theme song for “Mad About You” and continues to tour the nation with his stand-up comedy act.
Reiser was born and raised in New York City and attended the State University of New York at Binghamton, where he majored in music. He and his family currently live in Los Angeles.
