Son of BBC Worldwide Employee to Receive $16,000 to Attend Stevens Institute of Technology

The EMA Scholarship Foundation today announced that Ben Thompson, son of an employee of Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA)-member company BBC Worldwide, is receiving its 2017 scholarship. He will receive a grant of $4,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study. The announcement was made at the annual EMA Scholarship Luncheon.

Ben Thomson wants a career at the intersection of business, technology, and entertainment. He’s gotten a jump on that by creating two web-based  businesses, one that curated deals on professional fonts for graphic designers and another that created an app for communicating music recommendations via social media. He used his learnings from these endeavors to become a web designer and webmaster for small businesses and not-for-profit organizations. He also created an FM/Internet radio station, which he ran out of his basement.

Ben will graduate from Valley Stream North High School in Long Island, NY in June, where he has a 99.6 grade point average and has distinguished himself in AP courses. He will be matriculating at Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey in the fall, where he intends to study electrical engineering.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the EMA Scholarship Foundation for providing this support for my education,” Ben said. “Your investment in me will help me pursue my dream of creating my own business that fuses technology, business, and entertainment to transform the way consumers receive entertainment.”
