The Handmaid’s Tale, Amazon, and HBO Are Recognized for Outstanding Achievement in Digital Entertainment

ENCINO, CA (September 26, 2017) … The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) today presented The Handmaid’s Tale, Amazon, and HBO with “Digi” Awards for outstanding achievement in digital entertainment content, retailing, and innovation. The awards were announced at EMA’s Digital Media Pipeline, held at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

Digital Content “Digi” Award: The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) was recognized as the movie, television program, or other audiovisual work that was most unique in digital delivery over the past year, or that gave the consumer the best digital experience.

Digital Retailer “Digi” Award: Amazon received this honor for the fourth year in a row. The award recognizes outstanding service by a company that sells or rents audiovisual works to the consumer through Internet-based digital delivery. This year’s award recognizes Amazon’s continued market share growth, the expansion of its Prime TV “Add Ons,” and its financial and operational commitment to high quality original programming. Amazon’s award was accepted by Nathan Bartel, Manager – Partner Integration Standards, Amazon.

Innovation “Digi” Award: HBO was awarded for its cutting-edge streaming platform, with both live and VOD capabilities, as well as its distribution through linear and virtual MVPDs, OTT, physical media, and transactional electronic sell-through. The Innovation “Digi” Award recognizes the company that has shown innovation through its technology or programming to enhance the consumer experience of digital entertainment.                                                                                       

“The consumer experience is vital to success in the digital video marketplace, and each of this year’s Digi Award winners has delivered outstanding experiences to their customers,” noted EMA President and CEO Mark Fisher.

EMA’s Digital Media Pipeline, which began in 2008, brought together approximately 250 digital entertainment content owners, service providers, and retailers to focus on business-to-business opportunities in the digital delivery of home entertainment to consumers.

The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) is the not-for-profit international trade association dedicated to advancing the interests of the $35 billion home entertainment industry.
